Mokpo

Mokpo is located on the southwestern tip of the Korean Peninsula. It is located at the mouth of the Yeongsangang River, embraced by the sea and mountains stretching on all sides. Speaking of the sea, how about listening to a really interesting Korean folk tale that has been going on for generations? This is the story of a dragon king, a turtle and a rabbit.

The dragon king, who lives in the depths of the sea, falls seriously ill one day and the only thing to cure him is the rabbit's liver. The turtle volunteers to do this and promises to bring the rabbit's liver to the king. When the tortoise comes ashore, he finds the hare and promises him a high post in the sea palace and convinces him of it with his sweet words. As soon as the rabbit arrived at the sea palace, they captured and imprisoned him and asked him to give his liver to the dragon king. However, the clever rabbit deceives the king by saying that he left his liver on land. Convinced by the rabbit's words, the king sends the rabbit to fetch his liver and assigns the turtle to accompany him. When the rabbit comes ashore, he flees, telling the turtle that they will never get his liver and that they are stupid enough to believe the lie he told. Meanwhile, the king, who was waiting for the turtle and his liver, dies because he had to wait too long. The rabbit is still free and roams freely in the forest. Have you ever seen the running rabbit in the video? Well, why don't we go and follow him on his Mokpo journey? Let's see what he's doing!

Yeonhee Supermarket (Sihwa Village)

Welcome to the small only 18m Yeonhee Supermarket located in Seosamdong. Mokpo is a city that started to become famous with the movie "1987" and therefore takes care to preserve the features of the 1980s.

The movie “1987” is about the June Democracy Movement against the dictatorial government of the 1980s. In Yonhee Supermarket, you can see the materials used in the movie from that period. Curled baguettes / sticks, candies, chewing gum, and newspapers published in 1987. There's also a 50-year-old restored/renovated laundry right across the street from the supermarket, which you probably won't miss. Don't forget to take a look here too!

When you go a little higher, you can find yourself on Sihwa Street. This is an old-looking street, the walls of which are decorated with poems and paintings. Here you can also see the rest of the air raid shelter built during the Japanese occupation. The sanctuary was open only to the Japanese, so it has remained intact to this day as it was 30 years ago. Therefore, when you visit this place, you can feel like you have traveled to the past. Don't you want to get away from where you are for just a few hours and spend time in the past? Just a few hours?

Yudalsan Mountain

Yudalsan is where spirits stop and begin. Interestingly, this mountain has a magnificent panoramic view of the entire Mokpo city and the sea, despite its not-so-high 228 meters. Once you reach the top, you can find yourself on Nojeokbong Hill, where the statue of the famous Korean Admiral Yi Sun Sin is located. Don't worry, there are great stops where you can stop and rest for a while on your way to the top. During your journey, you may come across about 4 large mansions, a Buddhist temple, the April 19 Monument Tower and a park with dozens of monumental statues. If you have some time, a front exercise can be good for the long journey. After all, you have a long road ahead of you to the summit. Let's face it, it won't be easy.

Youngsanjae Hanok Hotel

This is perhaps the most memorable of all the routes in Mokpo. After a long walk and touring, everyone really needs a good night's sleep or rest to recharge for the next day. Younsanjae Hanok Hotel offers a brand new concept that combines the old facility facilities from the past to the present with modern facilities. A beautiful Hanok on the outside, and a hotel on the inside, equipped with luxury and modern amenities. In particular, the stone walls that make up an Enoch mansion truly reflect the beauty of Enoch. While this place offers a cultural education for those who care about history and culture, it is also a special area to experience the traditional Hanok. The rice field in front of Youngsanjae entrance is a great choice for morning and evening walks. If you want, you can take a nice stroll in the field with a bicycle you can borrow from the hotel. So you can have a healing experience. Enjoy, relax and most importantly give yourself a nice break at Youngsanjae Hotel in Mokpo!
